BOP Peak Season Extension

Posted on 1/2/2012 by Administrator Account

One of the major advantages of issuing insurance coverage on a BOP is all of the coverages that are built into the package. The BOP eligibility with most carriers includes small retail operations. One of the concerns with the retailer is that their inventory may fluctuate in value depending on the type of retailer and whether their stock has any seasonal increases.

On a Commercial Property Policy the Peak Season Endorsement would have to be added to the policy and the endorsement would be written for a specified period of time and a specific amount of insurance. On the BOP there is an automatic Peak Season Extension for 25%.

It is important to understand that the policy provides the Peak Season Extension only if the limit of insurance carried is "at least 100% of the average monthly values during the lesser of: (1) the 12 months immediately preceding the date the loss or damage occurs; or (2) the period of time you have been in business as of the date the loss or damage occurs" (BP 00 03). It is therefore a requirement to carry 100% to value in order to qualify for the additional coverage.

Always check your company’s specific BOP form to make certain that the coverage if included and if there are any exceptions to the provisions of the ISO based language.
